Using his knowledge of living illegally from his neighbor situation (an illegal immigrant), a man has on this a relationship of domination. Focused on the mechanisms and foundations of this power relationship between two individuals, the text offers us a reflection on how as contemporary societies boundaries amongits elements "legitimate" and "not legitimate" between different "levels" of citizenship.

Duarte is a young cockscomb, a compulsive liar, and inloved with Amalia, as she is about him. Amalia is the daughter of Mr. Bras Ferreira, a wealthy merchant, from OPorto coming to Lisbon to marry his daughter. But if Mr Bras Ferreira gets Duarte (the compulsive liar) telling a lie, there will be no marriage with Amalia. In this single act comedy in seventeen scenes, Almeida Garrett shows how ridiculous was the bourgeois society of the nineteenth-century in Portugal.
